What you are buying

A trained protection dog, ready for real life

A protection dog should be trained for real life, not for sport. A TYR dog is calm with your family, follows advanced commands on and off leash, and responds to a real human threat when one appears.

Every dog has an immediate off-switch on a verbal command. That control is what makes a protection dog safe to live with, and it is the first thing we build. Our dogs obey without an e-collar and are delivered without needing one.

Questions

Buying a protection dog in the USA: your questions

How much does a protection dog cost in the USA?

Our fully trained protection dogs start from $20,000. Each dog is priced individually, and hand delivery to your home is included in the price. The private catalogue shows the dogs available now, with videos, training level and price.

Do you deliver to every US state?

Yes. We deliver to all 50 states and anywhere in the world. We are based in Portugal and have no office in the USA, so the dog travels to you with one of our trainers and is handed over at your home.

Do I have to travel to Portugal to buy a dog?

No. One of our trainers brings the dog to your home and stays with you for the handover, which takes at least 2 days.

Do you sell Rottweilers, Belgian Malinois or Dobermans?

The protection dogs we offer are German Shepherds, trained with our Real Defense Protocol and raised in our family home. If you are still comparing breeds, our guides explain what matters more than breed: stable nerves, obedience and control.

What is the difference between a guard dog and a protection dog?

A guard dog guards a place, usually by barking or staying near a fence. A protection dog lives with your family and protects people. It also comes back to you on command, even when its drive is high. TYR trains protection dogs.

Can I watch a dog work before I decide?

Yes. Each available dog has videos that show it at work, so you can watch before you enquire. Rui also helps you choose the dog that fits your family and your level of risk.

Is a TYR dog safe with children and other pets?

Our dogs grow up in a real home with Rui and Sandra, so they are used to children, guests and other animals. Every dog also has an immediate off-switch on a verbal command. Tell us who lives in your home and Rui will match the dog to it.

How long does it take to get my dog?

If the dog you choose is ready, it travels in about 15 days. If it is still in training, it takes longer. Rui tells you which case applies when you choose.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. Every dog comes with a health and training guarantee. The dog does what we agreed it would do, and that is backed by a contract.

Will anyone know I bought a protection dog?

No. We never film or photograph our clients, their homes or their handovers, and we never publish client names.

Do I need to check local rules?

Yes. Laws vary by state, county and city, and your insurer, building or homeowners association may have rules too. Check them before your dog arrives.
